The 2011 Juried Show is the Luxor's opportunity to expose artists working in contemporary visual arts to a wide audience. This exhibition is a prominent showcase in the Southern Nevada region and highlights the exceptional work of Las Vegas resident and National Las Vegas native emerging artists in all media.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

There are 3 alcoves in Luxor Hotel and Casino that serve as a place to present temporary public art works by Las Vegas artists. The alcoves are located in the main front desk area, which services needs such as check-in, guest relations and bell services. This area is where both thousands of international and domestic guests first encounter the hotel. The Luxor Front desk alcove paintings will be a unique expos of artwork that embodies the commitment to local arts. Luxor believes there is a great opportunity to create extraordinary art for this space to be appreciated by guests from around the world and valued by the community.

EXPECTATIONS

The selected artist or artist team will work with the Luxor Chief Development Manager and the Project Design Team. The artist or artist team must meet with the artist selection panel for review, comment, and approval of the design before entering into production of the artwork.

ART "THEME"

Luxor desires that there be a theme linking all 3 pieces of artwork.

Imagery or designs that relate to contemporary Egyptian or Moroccan culture and /or the specific site of Luxor itself are encouraged.

Fabrication - Luxor will take original pieces of art work and scan them to create the large format prints to be hung in the front desk area alcoves.

Medium - All 2 dimensional mediums will be considered.

ARTWORK GUIDELINES AND SELECTION CRITERIA

In keeping with the Luxor and MGM standards to incorporate art into these alcove spaces, Luxor will use the following criteria when considering art for Luxor Triptych.


  • Quality of art or design;
  • Impact on hotel guests;
  • Connection to site and/or adjacent community; art that relates, in form or substance to the cultural, intellectual, or historic interests and values of the Luxor, in which the project is located;
  • Appropriateness for the site, including scale; and
  • Cost.

DEADLINE

All entries must be subitted by September 1, 2011 to be considered.

ELIGIBILITY

Las Vegas resident artists and national Las Vegas native artists 16 years and older may submit a maximum of six (6) digital images of artwork for possible selection. A photocopy of the selected artist(s) Nevada ID and/or Nevada birth certificate may be required to verify eligibility.
